Attending: promoting quality of care and clinician resilience
Ronald Epstein received his MD degree from Harvard Medical School. He is currently Professor of Family Medicine, Psychiatry and Oncology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry where he directs the Center for Communication and Disparities Research. For 25 years, Ron has focused his research on improving communication between physicians and patients (and patients’ families) and on the inner lives of physicians. Ron’s first research was on patient-physician communicaiton about HIV/AIDS in the early days of the epidemic, then stigmatized mental health conditions (somatization, depression) and currently on improving communication about prognosis and treatment choices in advanced cancer. He has also developed and studied mindfulness-based interventions for health care professionals.
