Envisioning medicine's future. Reflections on the pursuit of personalised medicine in contemporary biomedical research
Marianne Boenink studied health sciences at the University of Maastricht and philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. She is an assistant professor at the Department of Philosophy, University of Twente in the Netherlands. Marianne's research focuses on the philosophical analysis and ethical assessment of new and emerging biomedical technologies. She is particularly interested in the question how predictive, diagnostic and prognostic technologies, like molecular biomarkers to predict Alzheimer's disease, change our view of disease and health. She also reflects on the peculiar character of emerging technologies, which mainly exist as visions, promises and expectations, and develops methods for early ethical and societal deliberation about these technologies.
