Wolston is interested in investigating ethical and epistemological questions surrounding the production and authorship of medical “knowledge” (e.g. what and who motivates the production of new medical knowledge, and who counts as an authority in the production of such knowledge?), the impact of health information and medical diagnoses on patient identity, and the impact and influence of the pharmaceutical industry and the Internet on the ethos of medicine in contemporary society. As a unifying theme of her dissertation, these issues are discussed in the context of the chronic disease multiple sclerosis (MS).
