Cultural diversity in medical practice - a handbook for health care professionals
Tim Peters studied linguistics and social science at the University of Bochum (Germany) and currently works on his PhD-thesis about “Interactional Negotiations on the physician-patient-relationship in medical education” at the Institute for Medical Ethics and the History of Medicine (Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany). From 2009 to 2011 he coordinated the simulated patients program at the medical faculty including courses on “breaking bad news” and “intercultural communication”. At present Tim is the coordinator of the project “simulated-based conversation trainings” which transfers aspects of professionalism and applied ethics from medicine to other faculties. In 2011 Tim and his project partner Tatjana Grützmann initiated a task group on “Cultural Diversity in Medical Practice” located at the Academy for Ethics in Medicine (Germany).
Tim´s research focus is on cultural diversity in medical practice and especially on implementing these aspects in the education of future doctors and nurses using different didactical methods. Together with his project partner he is working on that issue at his current stay at the Brocher Foundation.
