Mother and Child: An Examination of the Legal, Bioethical, and Pathological Issues Surrounding the Homicide of Pregnant Women
Objectives The immediate objective of this proposal is to publish a scholarly article in a journal with wide readership in both the forensic science and legal communities, such as Journal of Forensic Sciences or Academic Forensic Pathology. Long-term objectives include discussions with state legislatures to influence and clarify public policy with regard to homicide during pregnancy, as well as authorship of workshops at national and international pathology meetings to teach the techniques for and the legal implications of proper specimen collection and analysis during post-mortem examination. Another long-term objective includes the creation of continuing legal education seminars to outline the value and limitations of post-mortem findings at trial.
