Biosecurity Controversies, Crossroads and Critical Issues
Keelie Murdock received her Master’s in Science and Technology Studies from the University of Amsterdam. She has since worked at the Rathenau Institute, in the Netherlands, as a researcher focused on science governance problems and on biosecurity issues, in particular. She has also worked in the security sector and most recently as a resident researcher at an idea incubator. Currently, Keelie resides in Silicon Valley. Keelie is an independent scholar interested in security regimes, innovation and the areas where security and science intersect. Her research focuses on the dual-use challenge and analyzes how boundaries are constructed to mediate between peaceful scientific development and weaponization. In the area of biosecurity, she is applying data mining tools and techniques to map the global effort to develop effective governance strategies for biological weapons control and the controversies surrounding the implementation of these strategies and related policies.
