Spaces of Expertise and Geographies of Global Justice: The International Recruitment and Migration of Health Workers
I have four objectives as a fellow at the Brocher Foundation. First, the fellowship will give me the opportunity to share and discuss my research among other scholars as well as policy stakeholders who have sustained research and policy interests on my work. I will achieve this by publishing the findings of my PhD thesis in leading academic journals in my field such as Human Resources for Health and Social Science and Medicine. Second, in order to further build on my doctoral work (on the migration and recruitment of health workers from developing countries), I wish to do a thorough systematic research on understanding and explaining the impacts of health human resources and migration policies on health equity in developing countries. Third, I will also use this opportunity to do in-person interviews with stakeholders in international organizations influencing the shape of global migration and global health human resource policies based in Geneva. Fourth, network of scholars based at the Foundation will serve as a source of intellectual inspiration as I transition to academic post-doctoral positions and work as a government consultant on issues surrounding health care worker recruitment and migration.
