Ethical, social and regulatory implications of clinical stem cell use in China, India and Brazil
McMahon’s current research explores the clinical stem cell initiatives of China, Brazil and India to better understand the challenges and legal, social, and ethical implications of moving stem cells from lab to clinic in developing countries. During her 2012 visit, McMahon will be developing two manuscripts exploring the regulated and unregulated clinical use of stem cells in China and Brazil. Her previous research has included a comparative analysis of regenerative medicine innovation in China, Brazil and India. McMahon’s research expertise includes biotechnology, science innovation in developing countries, medial “tourism”.
Dr. Dominique S. McMahon is a post-doctoral fellow at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. She previously completed her doctoral studies at the Institute of Medical Sciences and McLaughlin-Rotman Centre for Global Health at the University of Toronto.
