Health Economics

Dr David Walker is a National Health and Medical Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Sydney. He has degrees in Dentistry and Health Personnel Education and a Doctorate in Indigenous health research. His doctoral research of the factors influencing the sustainable development of the oral health role of Indigenous Health Workers in remote communities of far north Australia was awarded the Public Health Association of Australia award ‘for outstanding contribution to public health research in Aboriginal populations’. Dr Walker’s principle research interests are in the development of innovative approaches to improved Indigenous community oral health and in understanding the complex set of factors which influence the sustainability of the development of new health personnel roles. His current research undertaken with the support of the Brocher Foundation focuses on the development of an analytical framework to support senior decision makers in the sustainable development of the oral health role of primary health care personnel in disadvantaged communities and low income countries.
