Risk and consent in biomedical research : towards a new framework
Danielle works on a range of issues in meta-ethics and bioethics. Her current bioethical research focuses on informed consent to medical research participation. She is particularly interested in the relationship between the disclosure and comprehension requirements, and whether and how comprehension is necessary for valid informed consent. Her research at the Brocher foundation extends that project by focusing on the relationship between risk and consent in research. Together with physician bioethicist Annette Rid, she will develop a novel account of consent that explains why and how the informed consent process should be attentive to the level of risk posed by a study.
Danielle Bromwich completed her BA and MA in philosophy at the University of Sheffield, before moving to Canada to complete a PhD in philosophy at the University of Toronto. She was then trained in bioethics while a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Clinical Bioethics at the US National Institutes of Health. Danielle is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
