Biobanks and the communication of risk knowledge: Interventions by researchers, practioners and artists

Organisateurs:

The subject of the workshop is the discussion and understanding of epidemiological biobanking and databasing practices as a societal issue. The workshop would focus on the dimension of communication through the exploration of novel formats of collaboration between academic and artistic research using digital media. To do so, the proposed workshop brings together researchers, practitioners and artists working on the topic of biobanks and the communication of risk knowledge to open up an exchange between them. The aim is to discuss and develop a transdisciplinary and transacademic perspective on questions of the history of biobanks and risk knowledges, practices of data collection, and the transfer of risk knowledge. This includes the role of artifacts, data objects and software tools and related aspects of material democracy, i.e. the role of devices, environments and things in the enactment of political participation, issues of ethnicity and race in the constitution of populations of risks, data banks as socio-technical systems, biobanks and risk cartographies, the sociology of biobanks as infrastructures and digital art projects related to the life sciences.
