Sharing Results, Sharing Power: Re-Imagining Biomedical Research as a Collective Good
My primary objective with this project is to write about my experiences returning research results for genomics studies in a variety of settings around the world, many of them in the Global South. I hope to demonstrate the usefulness of applying tools from cultural anthropology to biomedical research, and the relevance of this approach for researchers in industry, the public sector, and academia.
Ultimately, I hope that writing about these processes will provoke dialogue around the important topic of results return, and that researchers from across sectors and disciplines will be encouraged to commit to returning research results to study participants worldwide. Industry and academia have much to learn from one another, as do social scientists and biomedical researchers. The more we can collaborate across sectors and disciplines, the more effective we will be at generating solutions to systemic challenges and problems around the world.
