Goals
Article 1
The Brocher Foundation offers to host researchers for residencies lasting between 1 and 6 months. Academic visitors can work at the Brocher Centre on scientific projects about ethical, legal and social implications of the development of new medical technologies.
Regarding calls for academic visits, the Scientific Board can decide to give the applicants complete freedom in proposing topics in this scope or impose more precise themes.
Contest
Article 2
a) The residencies are awarded through a yearly contest.
b) The application form must be sent within the relevant timeframe, as specified on the website www.brocher.ch and updated on a regular basis. The candidates must complete the form and send the requested enclosures. In addition, the application form requires information about the expected dates of arrival and departure, the topic, planning and goal (i.e. thesis, article, book, etc.) of the research as well as the reasons why the researcher intends to stay at the Centre.
c) Applicant must list two professors as references.
Decision

The Foundation decides on the grant or refusal of a scholarship. It is not obliged to justify its decision.

Accommodation
The Brocher Foundation provides researchers with an accommodation, which the visitor shall maintain in a perfect state. The Brocher Foundation is unfortunately not able to host families. Animals are not accepted.
Article 5
Scholarships
“Junior” visiting researchers can apply for a scholarship consisting of a 33.- Swiss francs per diem in order to cover their local expenses in Geneva (lunches, public transportation …).
To be eligible for the scholarship a researcher should be a PhD student or should have obtained his PhD degree in 2006 at the earliest and should not be paid by his institution during the time spent at the Brocher Centre. The researcher is requested to provide to the Brocher Foundation with all the relevant documents from his institution proving his eligibility for the scholarship before 31 October 2010 (a letter attesting that he will receive no income during the residency and a copy of the registration to a postgraduate course or a copy of the PhD degree). He should enclose the “Application form for scholarships” to the regular application form for visiting researchers.
Insurances
Article 6
It is the researchers’ responsibility to take out an insurance policy for the cases of illness, accidents or repatriation which could occur during their residency in Switzerland, as well as public liability insurance. The researcher has to provide an attestation before his arrival in Geneva.
Travels
Article 7
The Brocher Foundation is covering the researcher’s plane or train ticket in economy class to Geneva (round trip) up to a maximum amount depending of where the visiting researcher is living:
Europe: up to 400 swiss francs
North America up to 1’500 swiss francs
Latin America up to 1’500 swiss francs
Africa up to 1’500 swiss francs
Asia up to 1’500 swiss francs
Oceania up to 2’600 swiss francs
Due to these fixed amounts, the Brocher Foundation recommends to the visiting researchers to book as early as possible their travel to Geneva. Other travel costs (including taxi, visa, luggage excess, etc.) are not covered by the Foundation.
Presentations
Article 8
The selected visiting researcher is required to introduce his project and background to the other visiting researchers during a lunch meeting in the two weeks following the arrival at the Brocher Centre. This presentation should not exceed 30 minutes.
The visiting researcher has to mention his residency at the Brocher Foundation and add the Brocher Foundation logo in the PowerPoint document (if applicable) when he's presenting his project in conferences.
Article 9
Results
At the end of their stay, the researchers shall submit an activity report to the Scientific Committee. They shall also mention in any publication resulting from the Brocher residency that they have been supported by the Brocher Foundation, as well as indicate the website of the Foundation www.brocher.ch. In addition, they shall provide the Foundation with one copy of their work (thesis, book or article).
Limitations
Article 10
The Foundation Board can withdraw or reduce the duration or amount of a scholarship if the researcher does not abide by the present regulations.
