A recent scientific field, an essential chain of thoughts

To enlist with the Brocher Foundation means contributing to the development of a recent field of science, research into the ethical, legal, social and economic implications of medical development.

A challenge to society

This multidisciplinary scientific field crystallises the health issues of the XXIst century. It affects every one of us.
Between birth and death, each human being is the beneficiary of care and medical research several times. Babies are born thanks to test tubes and biotechnologies, organs are transplanted to save lives, new drugs are tested clinically to develop medical progress, epidemics are stopped because of medicine and emergency plans, intensive care is set up to extend life. All these developments and many others are henceforth part of current medical treatments of the Human of the XXIst century.

The Brocher Foundation, its calling, its position, opportunities to grasp

This medical context implies the taking of ethical decisions, the drafting of laws, the financial support of new technologies, decisions to be made regarding access to health care for all and above all the developing of health policies that are both responsible and human.
The speed with which biotechnologies and the medical field progress demands that these be escorted by an appropriate multidisciplinary scientific reflexion to enable scientists to continue with their work, patients to be accompanied and protected and societies to provide their people with the required health care.

The dialogue between science and society is made possible because of the enlightenment of ethicists, lawyers, sociologists, anthropologists, medical doctors, psychologists, economists and experts of numerous international organisations, including those of the World Health Organisation, WHO.

The geographical situation of the Foundation in Geneva enables it to get researchers of many fields coming from all over the world to meet experts of governmental or non-governmental international organisations.
The anchorage of the Foundation in the Leman region, renowned in Europe and worldwide for its scientific excellence in the fields of life sciences and medicine, and the membership on its Board of the three Chancellors/Presidents of the Universities of Geneva and Lausanne and the EPFL, guarantees a high quality academic level.

A great potential to be developed and perpetuate

Nevertheless, the means of the Foundation are limited and it needs you to become the academic centre of worldwide expertise which in this field could be one of the new assets of International Geneva.

The Foundation essentially needs to be supported in order to perpetuate its action and bring assistance to scientists working in a new field, little known yet but vital for the highly medically dependent society of today and tomorrow.
