Incidental Findings (IFs) from genetic tests: exploring the ethical issues and implications for practice
Gillian Crawford is a Clinical Doctoral Fellow at the University of Southampton, working within the Clinical Ethics and Law at Southampton (CELS) reseach group in the Faculty of Medicine. She has been awarded a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Academic Training Fellowship and her research will explore the consent and disclosure practices surrounding clinically relevant incidental findings from genetic tests. Gillian is a Registered General Nurse and Genetic Counsellor and has degrees in Health Care Studies (BAhons) and Advanced Professional Healthcare Practice (MSc). She has many years experience working in a joint academic/clinical role in Clinical Cancer Genetics and complex clincial challenges from her practice have directed her research interests. Previous research projects have included exploring the nature of the boundary between research and clinical care and the genetic testing of children for adult onset conditions. During her stay at the Brocher Fondation Gillian will be focusing on the analysis of interview data from her PhD project.
