Scientific Activities

The Brocher Foundation welcomes researchers from all over the world to write a book, an article, an essay or a doctoral thesis in an exceptional and peaceful environment that enhances concentration.
Since its inauguration in 2007, the Brocher Foundation has welcomed 50 researchers each year.
The rigorous selection process carried out by the Scientific Committee allows many experts to participate in high quality workshops and to keep abreast of ELSI’s international news in medical development and health policy.

The objective of the scientific activities

The mission of the Brocher Foundation is to be a dynamic exchange platform on the health challenges of the 21st century. It focuses on the impact of new medical development on society. It is a bridge between the scientific world, OIGs, NGOs and citizens. The Brocher domain is located a few minutes from Geneva International in a splendid 3-hectare park by the lake.

The Brocher Foundation is renowned for its promotion of pluridisciplinary research on the Ethical, Legal and Social Issues (ELSI) of new medical development and health policies.

The Brocher Foundation is a Swiss private law Foundation created by Mr and Mrs Brocher. According to the founder’s will, its main aim is to welcome Researchers from all over the world to work and to hold meetings.

All these activities give rise to scientific publications. Scientific articles serve namely as a basis for the development of national and international conventions and laws.

Stays

The Brocher Foundation hosts, for 1 to 3-month residencies, Researchers coming from all over the world, to write a book, articles, essays and/or PhD thesis in an outstanding and peaceful environment that stimulates concentration.

Everything is done so that Junior and Senior Researchers staying at the same time develop a scientific network as well as one with experts from International Organizations located in Geneva (WHO, WTO, WIPO, UNHCR, ILO, ICRC, MSF…).

Since its inauguration in 2007, the Brocher Foundation welcomes 50 Researchers each year.

The rigorous selection process carried out by the Scientific Committee allows numerous experts to attend high quality workshops and to keep up to date with international ELSI news on medical development and health policies.

The Foundation provides Researchers with an accommodation and a workplace in its beautiful domain.
A few days after their arrival, the Researchers have the pleasure of presenting their respective research projects to each other during a one-day workshop held in the Foundation’s auditorium. This day, as well as the meals taken together every evening, encourages conviviality and informal exchanges between Researchers.

At the end of their stay, the Researchers submit a scientific report to the Foundation.

Workshop

The workshops, lasting from 2 to 3 days, bring to the Brocher Foundation 20 to 30 experts from different disciplines and nationalities. The optimal working conditions offered by the Brocher Center give a rare opportunity to organize a meeting between experts while enjoying the beneficial retreat.

Brocher Academies

The Brocher Harvard Summer Academy brings together every 2-year and for a 1-week session distinguished Professors with highly promising Researchers willing to acquire a strong background on ethical allocation of health resources on a global health perspective.

Each Summer Academy focuses on a specific sub-topic.

Its program is built around daily workshops and roundtables, allowing a unique opportunity for students to directly discuss with renowned Professors.
